Thangton Gyalpo was an incarnation of the illustrious Dolpopa Sherb Gyatlston (1292-1361) a leading Jonangpa master and formulator of the shengteng view of emptiness. He is said to have built 58 iron suspension bridges around Tibet and Bhutan, several of which are still in use today, He is considered a manifestation of Guru Rinpoche.

These rings comes from iron that was used to create the bridge that Thangton Gyalpo built over the Paro River to Tachog in Bhutan.
